Aunt Bessie’s Battle of the Batter
Is it wrong to eat Yorkshire Puddings with anything other than traditional roast beef?
Aunt Bessie’s wanted us to get mums thinking about serving Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings with chicken – the UK’s most popular roast dinner meat. So we approached the world’s most prestigious debating society, The Oxford Union, and asked them to debate the merits of serving Yorkshire puddings with chicken instead of beef.
This was the first time The Oxford Union, which has played host to twelve British Prime Ministers and celebrities including Michael Jackson, Professor Stephen Hawking, Johnny Depp and Malcolm X, has ever turned its attention to such mainstream culinary matters – making a fantastic story for the media.
The resulting national and broadcast coverage – including Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, The Sun, Daily Express, Good Morning Britain, The Wright Stuff, Talk Sport and Radio 2 - fuelled widespread conversation and engaged consumers. Even famous foodies like Phil Vickery and Brian Turner waded into the debate. Crucially – sales of Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire puddings increased by 3.2% - proving the power of a good story.
